Steam-Guides

Here we have put together some good links and step-by-step instructions on how to install and use Steam.

A) Create a Steam Account

Before you use or install Steam, you should create and activate a Steam account. You should remember or write down your username and password. After creating the account, you will receive an e-mail in which you have to confirm the activation. Only then is the account fully functional.

1. Visit The Steam website

2. Click “Sign in” at the top of the page

4. Deposit the necessary data

Steam requires a valid email address. You have to enter them twice and put a catch on “I’m not a robot”. It’s possible that you’ll then get a pop-up window where you’ll need to prove that you’re “not a robot.” Follow these instructions.

5. Confirm further information and terms and conditions of Steam

In this step, you should read Steam’s subscription agreements and confirm that you are over 13 years of age. If you are under 13 years of age, you should now hand over the helm to your guardians and let them take all further steps.

C) Steam Guard – Enable Two Factor Authentication

To protect Steam from unauthorized use, you should run Steam with 2-factor authentication – the Steam Guard. This means that you get a message on the selected medium once at the first login to be able to confirm that you are the rightful owner of the account.

If someone else tries to log in to your account, you will also receive a message and the unauthorized user would then have to enter a code that arrives on your specified media. 2-factor authentication also takes effect when you first log in to your Steam account from another device.

D) Top up Steam Credits

To purchase different content through Steam, you’ll need a balance on your Steam account. You have to charge it. There are several ways to do this, for example:

– Steam recharge card

– Online charging via one of the predetermined common means of payment

A guide for online charging can be found here:

E) Redeem and activate Steam Key

“Steam Content” purchased through an external provider as a “Steam Key” must be activated in the local Steam application. You can see how this works in the following instructions.
